One of our major projects involves planting Native Trees and sustaining them to grow strong and beautiful. Tree planting is at the heart of our work to restore the Native Trees of Delhi. One may think that planting a tree simply means sowing a seed and watering it, whereas, that isn’t the case. We at Hara Jeevan take Tree Planation seriously and it is carried out in four significant steps: Plan, Prepare, Plant and Protect.
Native Trees are the ones that have developed, occurred naturally or existed for many years in an area. Native Trees form a part of a plant community where several species or environments have developed to support them. Delhi, being in verge of such environmental catastrophe, needs significant amount of improvement to its Native Trees. Attributed to rapid urbanization, the beautiful Native Trees of Delhi are diminishing.
Some of the renowned Native Trees are: Ber, Kosam, Kaim, Palash, Peelu, Ronjh, Amaltas, Shahtoot etc. So far, Hara Jeevan has planted more than 12,000 trees and spread more than 1 lakh seed balls, covering different parts of India. These trees were planting by all age groups over the period of 5 years via workshops and welfare projects. In order to sustain the Trees, we ensure that the planted trees are taken care of – watered regularly and provided manure, which we organically produce majorly from biodegradable wastes. Thus, directing back the manure to where it originated from.
